The link between NGO Miriyawalé and Association MM was created during volunteer work carried out by Jop Houtman in the Centre. It revealed that the recruitment of finance is a very difficult task in the world of NGOs and makes it almost impossible to keep going. The realization of his dream was to create financial sustainability for NGO Miriyawalé through Association MM. At the same time, Association MM is a Cooperative Educational Company.

The Mission and Vision statement of NGO Miriyawalé.

In Mali, young people have not much positive experience with connectivity. Old social structures have been discarded, there is nothing but mistrust and despair in its place. Yes, connection in inability, not in power, is experienced. Ask 100 random people in Mali what they prefer in life and 98% will answer: “Away from Mali.” Through our work in and outside the Centre, Miriyawalé puts its efforts in enhancing mutual comfort zone that can be the basis of trust and collaboration. Only in connection with yourself, others, matter, society, nature of life’s wholeness, you learn how to treat with respect. As you experience someone as a fellow human, you don’t hurt. Something you experience as a (co) owner, you don’t damage. You don’t leave. That’s what you take care of.

A bond, anchors you in life. Close ties make you strong, makes society powerful and makes your preparedness to help bigger.

Strategy

How do we realize our Mission and Vision statement?

Miriyawalé gives children the opportunity to develop life skills.

About life skills.

Life skills are the fundamental building blocks for young people to realize their potential at home, at school, and in their communities. Life skills programs provide a means of achieving important youth development outcomes, such as; improved performance in school, increased literacy, finding and maintaining employment, and active citizenship.

We live together on one planet.

Let’s all insert some effort to be connected, to share.

The “Centre”

“Centre Miriyawalé” is a Child and youth activity Center for and by the youth from 0 to 30 years. Miriyawalé contributes to the development of the visitors. The older visitors are the volunteers and carry a responsibility. A unique place in a country plagued by poverty. A place where children and young people can meet, learn and play safely and often cost-free. The pedagogical guidance of our Center is much needed in addition to the sometimes desperate situation at home and school. The combination of attention, creativity and education, cultural and development works. This can be concluded after years of experience. Visitors grab all the opportunities with both hands whom they get offered at the Center.

 Activities:

- Sports, dance, theater, drawing, music and book club.
- Literacy courses and homework supervision and support
- Multi media library, ICT education, youth press agency
- Recording studio, film and (live) music activities
- Profession education (work-study company)

“Centre Miriyawalé” provides a safe place to relax and learn for children and young people.
